Whetu & Nick recount

~Whetu & Nick Recount~

We were finally going to the theatre to see Whetu and Nick. I was way beyond excited, I was ecstatic, to see the film. The one thing I liked was how Nick tried to offer Whetu a handshake but instead, Whetu went into a Hongi. A Hongi is when you welcome someone into your own personal bubble and exchange their breath.

The one thing I liked is how Whetu spoke Maori for the entire show because Lesina and I found it easy to understand, what she was saying. I was kind of bored though. It was super annoying because the school behind us kept talking. It made it hard to hear the show and my tolerance levels were getting lower each time they chatted.

The special effects were amazing and blew me away, although the lightning sound effect scared me. The voice-over for Ta Whiri Matea was also pretty mysterious yet amusing. I also found the props on the stage were pretty realistic. Whetu and Nick had their differences. While Nick used his gadgets such as a compass, Whetu used the traditional Maori way by using nature and her navigation skills.

Nick wasn’t the only one who was curious. Whetu was intrigued by Nick’s telescope. Luckily his telescope helped Whetu to find her kite (Manu tukutuku) her only connection to find her Whanau. Ta Whiri Matea, the wind God, helped Whetu and Nick with their journey by blowing their boat across the sea.

Soon enough Captain Cook was unaware of Nick not being on the ship and left him on the Island. Nick started to worry. This made me very worried as well but somewhat excited. Soon enough Whetu managed to find her Whanau with Nick’s telescope and invited Nick along to visit her parents.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing another theatre show. I would like to see another show in the theatre. I’d love to see a longer and more detailed version of Whetu and Nick.  Maybe Whetu could have spoken more English for others to understand. But in the end… I really enjoyed watching it and hope we could see it again!

How long is your Mintie Wrapper?

How long is your Mintie Wrapper?

Who got the longest Mintie Wrapper and Why?
I got the longest Mintie Wrapper. It was 90cm long. My wrapper was the longest because I took my time
and was really patient
and remembered what Sayonara did last year. Reupena got 74cm and his wrapper was the second longest.
He was only 16cm away from me.

Who got the shortest Mintie Wrapper?
Kale got the shortest because he got 7cm. The reason I think he got the shortest wrapper is that he
rushed it and didn’t
take his time. Also because he might have been new to this task.

Who got the same Mintie Wrapper?

Sione and Miss Virginia got the same measurement because they were helping each other out.
They both got 65cm

How to make Catwoman Enlargement Art

How to make Catwoman Enlargement Art.

Today, we are going to teach you how to make a SuperHero Enlargement Art.

  •           Things you need to make Enlargement

  •  Catwoman
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Thin Paint Brushes
  • Paints
  • Vivid or Sharpie (for outline)
  • Paper A3
  • Rubber (Incase)
  • Newspaper
  • Paper
  • Scaled Drawing of SuperHero

Once you’re sure you have all of the items, it's time to start drawing the grid lines.

  1. Rule on a scaled drawing of Cat Woman.

  1. Rule vertically using a ruler, ensure the ruler starts on the 0 mark.

  1. Skip count in 4cm using the ruler (Do this at least six to eight times). Make sure to mark and plot the areas.

  1. Rotate the image to Landscape. Skip count again using the four times tables. You should have 10 squares going down and 8 going across.

  2. Rule the paper vertically all the way down.

  1. Rule the paper horizontally all the way down. Remember to repeat what you did.

  1. Now begin to draw Cat Woman. (Bottom from Top)

  1. Begin on her foot. The coordinates are 2,10

  1. Slowly begin to move upwards. Draw her thigh to her waist, 5,5.
  2.  Her other leg should be around 7,6.

  1. Her foot is 7,7 and then it should go onto 6,6.

  1. When you move a little bit up you should be closer to the waist at 5,5 or 6,6

  1. When you move up to the breast’s they should be at 5.4 but lower or 6,4 for the other breast

  1. Now begin to draw the arms, for the upper arm the coordinates should be 6,3, 7,3 or 7,2 Catwoman is holding a whip in the upper arm so the coordinates for the whip are 7,1 slightly going into two, or it would be 6,1 slightly going onto two.

  1. Now begin to draw the other arm the coordinates for it are 5,4, 4.4 going into 4.5. When you get into the part when drawing the claws the coordinates for the claws are 3,4 or in the middle in the of 3 and 4.

  1. Now you draw the face. The one part of the face is on 5,3 and these fade into the other part s 6,3 or 6,2.

  1. Now you begin to draw the rest of the whip.
the coordinates, the first part is 2,6 then it goes onto 5,4. The end of the whip is 4,3.

Once you’ve finished your drawing it should look like this.

Enlargement Reflection

Enlargement Super Hero Art

  1. What did you accomplish?
I accomplished making the enlargement and finally covering up those little bits. I also accomplished making a proper grid line.

  1. Are you satisfied with your Super Hero enlargement? Why / Why not?
I’m very satisfied with it because it somehow is similar to the real thing which makes me proud.

  1. What did you find easy when you created your Super Hero enlargement?
I have found drawing my Cat Woman easy because I use to draw her when I was little.

  1. What did you find challenging when you were drawing your Super Hero enlargement?
I thought having to draw the grid lines made it so difficult because I wasn’t very good at ruling them up but overall I really enjoyed the task.

  1. What do you need to work on?
I think I need to work on my painting again because it was difficult to paint within the lines.

  1. What would you change with your Super Hero enlargement?
I would change nothing because I’m proud of it.

7. What would you do next time to improve your Enlargement Art?
I wouldn’t change a thing because I’m very proud of the Cat Woman I enlarged.

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was the very first mountaineer to ever climb Mount Everest on the 29th of May, 1953. Sir Edmund Hillary and his partner, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the very first people to reach the top. Sir Edmund was also put onto the 5 dollar note in honour of his amazing achievement. Before he climbed Mt Everest, he was originally a Bee Keeper. They tackled rock and ice, some vertical for 5 hours and had made it at 11:30AM. Sadly, his partner Sherpa has died several years later, at a young age.

During the next 50 years, Edmund Hillary had done a lot of amazing things like Jet boating out of the Mighty Mouth Of the Ganges River. Soon enough, Sir Edmund th0ught of a brilliant idea. He was the one who founded the Himalayan Trust. When he first arrived, his priorities were to create a life for the people. Loads of volunteer’s had come all around the world to help build foundations.

Sherpa’s had to cut roots, moved heavy boulders, and levelled the ground. It made it even more difficult to make because there was no heavy machinery to build roads nor an Airstrip. Sir Edmund Hillary went through some grief in his life because his wife and youngest daughter (Belinda) were supposed to visit him in the Himalayas but sadly the plane they were on crashed and both of them died. Although his closest family members died, that did not stop him from completing the job.

For the past 30 years, Sir Edmund Hillary built two hospitals, twelve clinics, several bridges and an Airstrip. He was remembered for his charitable work and for being on the five dollar note. He was a hero to all, people will remember him as the hero who saved the Himalayans and the people who belonged there.
